Our Farm

At Lovers Retreat Farm we strongly believe that the only way to produce our quality goat cheese is to have happy, healthy goats.  We keep a small herd of Nubian and Alpine goats on our farm that are milked twice per day. They produce a gallon of milk each per day, which makes a pound of cheese.

During the day the goats enjoy grazing in our bountiful pastures to their hearts content. In the evening they relax in a spacious paddock until milking time when they enjoy their favorite mix of grains.

We specialize in raising pure bred and percentage dairy goats.  As members of the American Dairy Goat Association, we strive to produce top quality animals.  Contact us for goat sales.

Our farm also produces our own brown eggs from numerous free-range Black SexLink, Barred Plymouth Rock and Rhode Island Red hens.  We also sell duck, goose and guinea eggs from our flock of Mallard ducks, Embden geese and Lavender Guineas.  Contact us for local egg sales. 

We also raise Belted Galloways.  These medium-sized, polled beef animals are unrivaled as a grazing breed utilizing coarse grasses other breeds would shun. They are able to maintain good condition on less than ideal pasture, and easily produce an exceptionally lean and flavorful meat on grass alone. Contact us for beef sales.

We also wish to contribute to our unique environment.  We hatch and raise Mallard ducklings for release into the Dragon Run, a 90,000 acre watershed at the headwaters of the Piankatank River which is the most pristine body of water in Virginia.
